City Crests from Germany Provide Colorful Elements

There are a multitude of city crests for Germany cities. These are usually colorful and heraldic so they provide color bursts on this cask.

The Outline of Germany Takes the Center

In the center of the carving is the outline of Germany with a grape cluster in it.

A Playful Castle

At the bottom of the cask end, where the clean-out access door used to be, a castle provides a hint of the German countryside.

Inspiration from Years Ago

As a grade-school student in a military family, Paul Bolinger lived in Germany for 3 years during which the family toured as frequently as possible. Scenes of hillsides upon which castles and castle ruins stood were common and exciting sights. Even more fun was the occasional opportunity to climb in the ruins of a castle and dream of its history.
